EATING DISORDERSEating disorders and disordered eating are characterized by problematic eating behaviors, eating-related behaviors, and distorted perceptions towards food, weight, shape, appearance and self. Clients with eating disorders or disordered eating often experience psychological distress which may impair daily functioning as well as impairments to physical health. Eating disorders are emotional disorders.

ANXIETYAnxiety is characterized as experiencing worry and fear which can be persistent, intense, and excessive regarding every day situations. BODY IMAGEBody image is characterized as an individual’s thoughts, perceptions, and emotions surrounding their physical appearance. Body image can impact an individual’s perception of self and behaviors. For some individuals, they may experience a preoccupation with certain aspects of their physical appearance leading to psychosocial impairment.

DEPRESSIONDepression is characterized by feelings of sadness, irritability, emptiness, and impact an individual’s ability to function. Depression is also linked to a decrease in pleasure or enjoyment, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, and low motivation. Individuals suffering from depression may experience differences in intensity and duration.

TRAUMATrauma is characterized as any impactful experience which results in significant fear, helplessness, dissociation, confusion, or other feelings related to psychological distress. Traumatic experiences have a negative impact on an individual’s perception of themselves, the world, and how they function within it. Traumatic events can be caused by human behavior or nature.
